prankdial.com : The Incident, all they had to do was cooperate. They did not. Bad choice.
So I am in the shower at 11:00 pm and my girlfriend comes running into the bathroom. "Mage, Mage there is an automated message, apparently you went on wiki leaks and downloaded govt secrets and will be fined 500,000$.... (Return number was a non-existing number)
She was very upset. I listened to part of the msg and hung up the phone. If I had govt secrets they wouldn't call or fine me, there would be a cool helicoptor or 5 and some swat vehicles, guys smashing threw the window like in HACKERS. I did some googling and found the site. http://prankdial.com I even found the message that was played.
After reading the site, it shows the 'pranker' must check off that they are under full responsibility for any legal issues. You can read the terms of service here. I was a little pissed off still, and contacted them once I found out they record the phone conversations.
I contacted them and stated that I am not amused, am on the DO NOT CALL LIST, and did not authorize the recording of said phone call. I requested the originating IP of the prank-request, and their userID. I got a response the next day:
Turns out at some point the owner got smart and re-reg'd his site via a registrar who blocks the contact info. Thats OK you can then use googleCACHE to find the previous registration of the domain using the available information for the currently available whois information.

Interesting... What about a whois on treytor.com? Got that too..
WOW! So yeah I guess we have the guy.
So if you have been pranked by prankdial.com and are unhappy with their shotty legal disclaimer and they refuse to help you find out who's pranking you, why not call our friend Trey, or his Mom, Dad, Brother, Grandma, Cousins, whatever. I will not post those, However I will tell you if you search for their numbers in the locations listed in facebook, you will find them, easily.
Maybe Grandma will help you get a hold of Trey if he won't answer your calls.
As of this post, the Prank-O-Meeter on prankdial.com boasts that "23,941,966 people hate us!" Well... sometimes, maybe Karma needs a little help, and I am here help Karma!
p.s. I had issues working threw the formatting, but don't have time to fix it, sorry internet.

Sorry for the inconvenience.Needless to say, I was not satisfied. What is a lame old mage to do? Get Mad? Feel vunerable? Nah. There is so much information out there. First I filled complaints with the FCC and FTC. ;-D In order to fill the forums out it asked me for the address and phone number of the buisness... So I did some whois searches on the domain prankdial.com.
Please block your number here:

Cool. But is it accurate? How can we check? OK well, lets try the biggest privacy risk available. No not the giant Epcot Center like balls that the NSA uses in England to listen to all trans-atlantic communication. I thought better, public, something that is so available to everyone that the guy has to be smart enough to hide himself to avoid being the target of angry pranked people, but can't help because he loves to play farmville.... facebook!

BANG! But is it him? Well he's on the prankdial.com friends list! Could it be tho? How do we check? Social Networking DUH! I Looked at his friends list, and used the search for his last name to weed out everyone but potential family members to verify. Yup. Mom is even friends with prankdial.com! How fun.
OK, I thought, but what if the number is wrong? Just because his whole family minus grandma are +1 Fans of the prankdial.com page doesn't mean the number is correct does it? I have to be sure, for karma! So, I googled it. I Found a few things, like a registration forum for peekapuppy.com. He did have a puppy in his facebook pic.. can it be the same guy?

Registrant:Same guy, Same address, new phone number! Lets GOOGLE THAT and look at the first 2 hits. The first one is an ad for our man as 'My Computer Guy' on city search.... home address and phone number are listed. The second link is for some charity golf page, didn't pay attention to what it was really, just searched the page for our new phone number. Low and behold It's listed to a woman at that address. Also, the original phone number used to register prankdial.com is listed as the work number. WOW! Amazing how little privacy there is now a days...

Hi. I'm Trey, and this information is wrong. I once owned the domain PrankDialer.com, which was then sold to the owner of PrankDial.com. I do not own or run prankdial.com, nor do I have any affiliation with it. Please get your facts straight before trying to be an internet tough guy.
ReplyDeleteSo you are saying you don't own Callspin?
DeleteYou got all the info wrong bitch.
